David’s bio
David has been working with teens, young men, and their families as a California Licensed Therapist, #38744, since 2004. He has experience in most settings for young people and believes his calling is to facilitate young men’s growth and personal legend.
David is skilled in a variety of therapeutic and coaching techniques he’s refined over 20 years including CBT, Integral Psychology, Experiential Therapy, Wheel of Life Coaching, and more.

Many ordeals and failures come along the way AND the road will get clearer because of them. The path of your personal legend is a lifelong and, at times, harrowing journey. We always need others on our path. Our problems are crucial to our development.
When young men struggle mightily it shows up in many areas of life. These “areas” are the sounds of the call to do something differently. At Legend Counseling we believe that young men have a lot to overcome and fight through and that each young man possess the ability to see his life as precious and worth improving, even if one small step at a time.
Society today has a powerful pull to reduce everything down to only its downside or threatening elements (social media, etc...). When we do this, we unconsciously reduce ourselves to our own weaknesses or perceived limitations. Like never before, we can numb ourselves with technology and substances or blame-shift to justify our actions. This can all seem like a winless game until we learn to stop playing it.
Legend Counseling calls us to not reduce and sedate ourselves so often. It calls the young men to accept much of what is happening and to take bold strides towards healthy activity, exercise, reading, introspection, and change. It starts with opening up to your personal legend.

We offer individual and group counseling that don’t pathologize the young man. Legend Counseling evokes the young man to deepen his self-awareness and gain insights into his thoughts, feelings, and actions, and how challenges are blessings in disguise. Group counseling broadens his perspective and helps him apply those new insights into positive action.

We see each young person as creative and capable. We balance the directness and forward movement of coaching with the compassion of therapy. We positively encourage an openness to talk about what’s really happening and to see all challenges as opportunities for growth and change. And, naturally, we challenge the young man safely when needed.
