David’s Journey

David is no stranger to life’s twists and turns. Like most of us, he has known loss, failure, and disappointment, as well as deep connection, meaningful work, and hard-earned success. His path has taken him from a suburban, immature boy to a restless wanderer, and eventually to a man committed to growth and service. Most recently, he has worked closely with families trying to support their at-risk children and young adults.

David’s journey truly began during a painful chapter in his family’s life. His younger brother was struggling with serious educational and behavioral challenges, and his parents felt overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. At the same time, his parents were dealing with their own difficulties. When change is necessary, life has a way of stirring everything at once.

In his twenties, as David discovered a deep interest in psychology, he learned about therapeutic and behavioral programs that could help not only his brother, but the entire family. His brother received the support he needed, and David witnessed something powerful: when one person heals, the whole family can shift. That experience stayed with him.

In 2001, searching for his own sense of purpose, David took a job out of state as a wilderness therapist. He had recently completed his master’s degree in counseling and was working toward licensure in California. Before that, he spent six years in an acute psychiatric hospital working with children and teens. Through wilderness therapy, David encountered non-traditional forms of healing, including meditation and experiential work. These approaches often led to changes that couldn’t be captured by charts or instruments, but were deeply felt by both young people and their parents.

In 2014, David’s life was shaken by the death of his wife of 23 years, Leslie, who passed away from brain cancer. It was a loss that felt unbearable. With the support of family and friends, David and his two children found their way forward, one step at a time.

Today, David is passionate about guiding young men to hear their own inner calling and become the best version of themselves. Many young men find themselves in dark, lonely places. Along the way, it is often the presence of mentors and allies that helps awaken them to their own personal journey and sense of purpose.
